Food & Wine

Matching food and wine may seem daunting and overwhelming. However, mastering a few simple guidelines will soon have you pairing with the pros!

Essential to a successful pairing is achieving balance between food and wine. Light, fresh fare requires light-bodied, crisp wines. Rich, hearty dishes, however, are better suited to lush, full-bodied wines, preferably with notable tannins.

After considerations of weight and food preparation, the focus should switch to the remainder of the meal: proteins, vegetables, sauce? How are these items prepared? Texture is key to a successful pairing. The same goes for sauces. Even the most carefully chosen wine may fall flat when confronted with a beurre blanc instead of a vinaigrette. A rewarding match demands attention to all aspects of the meal.
